Event Overview

The Salmon Enhancement Derby is a two day catch and release fishing tournament designed to raise critical funds for salmon habitat restoration in Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet. Participants vie for the three largest Chinook catches while enjoying community auctions, live music, and local brews—all set against the rugged beauty of Vancouver Island’s west coast.
Dates & Times: Saturday–Sunday, July 5–6, 2025. Registration opens at 7 AM each morning; weigh ins close at 4 PM sharp
Location: Moutcha Bay Resort, Head Bay Road, Tahsis, Vancouver Island, BC.
Purpose: 100% of derby proceeds support the Nootka Sound Watershed Society and the Pacific Salmon Foundation to ensure sustainable salmon returns for generations to come.

Fishing Tournament

• Target Species: Southbound Chinook salmon on their early migration.
• Prize Structure:
1. 1st Place: $2,000 + 3 Night Signature Yurt Stay at Moutcha Bay Resort (2026).
2. 2nd Place: $1,250
3. 3rd Place: $750
• Additional Categories: Largest Coho, Under 16 Division, and hidden weight prizes—plus silent and live auctions throughout the weekend.
