Weekday Archery Practice in Sooke

Aiming for Adventure this Summer on Vancouver Island
Ever wondered what it feels like to pull back a bowstring as sunlight fades, hear the thwack of arrow meeting target in the hush of Rinder-Vancouver Island pines—and then realise you’re absolutely alone in the moment, yet part of a casual community of archers? This Thursday‑evening archery drop‑in, just outside Sooke, might be your low-key summer delight.

Getting There & Parking

  • Driving from downtown Sooke, follow West Coast Road to Rocky Point Road.
  • Proceed past the unmanned entrance gate—houses will appear to your left after a fire‑warning marker.
  • If you pass a second entry gate, you’ve gone too far. Turn back.
  • House #9 is green with a vegetable garden—located inside that compound.

Wildlife & Safety Notes

Yes, wolves have been spotted nearby— uncommon but acknowledged by the host, who has taken WildWise wildlife safety training. If one appears, stand your ground and face it—it’s known for turning away.
Within the shooting range, standard SCA safety protocols apply, including “range clear,” “loose,” and “retrieve” commands issued by the target archery marshal. All archers are required to comply immediately and refrain from shooting if anyone crosses the firing line.

FAQ at a Glance

Question

Answer

Is it truly free?

Yes. No registration or fee—though modest donations are welcome toward upkeep and insurance.

What if I bring a bow?

Just check safety standards with the Range Marshal upon arrival.

Is there an indoor restroom?

Yes. Host’s house (at the range) has a available public restroom.

Can I bring kids under 12?

Yes only with direct supervision at the line by a parent or guardian.

Rain or storms cancel?

Yes—practice may be cancelled in unsafe weather. Expect notice on the event page or via message if host plans to cancel by 6 pm.

Before You Go…

✅ Double‑check the date and time (host occasionally updates start/stop times or seasonal adjustments).
✅ Send a quick message to say you plan to attend, so the host knows to wait past 6 pm.
✅ Review your route, especially the exit off West Coast Road—you’ll need to spot the correct gate.
✅ Plan after‑hours travel, especially if you’re staying nearby—Sooke or Metchosin has limited public transport.
Whether you aim centre‑bull for the first time, or you’re an archer just chasing long shadows and tranquil evenings, Weekday Archery Practice in Sooke offers a refreshingly authentic Vancouver Island experience. Pack your curiosity—and maybe a camera—then pull the string and see how far the arrow flies under that golden coastal sky.
