Known as one of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve's three main recreational components in conjunction with the Barkley Sound, the Broken Group Islands unit consists of over one hundred islands and islets between Loudoun Channel and Imperial Eagle Channel. The sheltered water experience of the West Coast and the ease of access on the MV Frances Barkley freighter have increased the popularity of Broken Group Islands kayaking and canoeing.
Kayakers camping in wilderness areas may enjoy watching lagoons, sandbars, blowholes, arches, and secluded anchorages. Gibraltar Island is a famous start point. There are a lot of campsites on Gilbert, Clarke, Turret, Willis, and Hand Islands.
Paddlers can access the Broken Group Islands by Toquart Bay located northwest Barkley Sound. The MV Frances Barkley will transport paddlers, kayaks and canoes to Sechart.
Broken Group Islands is accessible by Toquart Bay in northwest Barkley Sound. Travellers may reach Broken Group Islands from Bamfield, Toquart Bay, Ucluelet, or Port Alberni. There is a road located 12 km (7.4 miles) northeast of the junction of Highway 4 and the Tofino-Ucluelet Highway leading to the Broken Group Islands.
