Bamfield and the adjacent Pacific Rim National Park Reserve are among the most beautiful whale-watching places in Canada. Known as a popular tourist attraction point on Vancouver Island, Bamfield is 90.1 km (56 miles) from Port Alberni.
Besides Bamfield whale watching, visitors can have an excursion around the coast and even do salmon fishing. Whales may sometimes be observable around Bamfield waterways. Walking along Bamfield Inlet, bald eagles, blue herons, kingfishers, cormorants, crows, ravens, gulls, loons, and various other birds and ducks are sightings common. Visiting Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre is another merit of choosing Bamfield as a whale-watching location.
Located in the Pacific Rim National Park's heart on the western coast of Vancouver Island, Bamfield is accessible both from Port Alberni and Lake Cowichan. This place is reached either by driving on the gravel logging roads or flying to Bamfield by chartered floatplane from different Vancouver origins.
Killer whales:
Killer whales, known as the largest dolphin family members, are named both orca and killer whales. The term orca refers to its Latin name, Orcinus orca, which means "of the kingdom of the dead." The term "killer whale" was coined when groups of these animals viewed hunting other whale species.
