If you go up to the power lines, you can find the dog off-leash area above the shore trail on the opposite side.
Westwood Lake Trail is an all-year-round hiking trail located in Westwood Lake Park, one of the Nanaimo area's best parks. The access to the starting point is from Westwood Rd. The path is around Westwood Lake, the only lifeguard patrolled freshwater swimming spot in Nanaimo, multiplying the attractiveness of Westwood Lake Trail. Getting to Westwood Lake Trail from downtown Nanaimo is via Third St and Jingle Pot Rd. It is 5 km (3.1 miles) and takes about 8 minutes.
Head west on Fitzwilliam St toward Wesley St and after 800 m (2624.6 ft) continue onto Third St. Drive 1.9 km (1.2 miles) and continue onto Jingle Pot Rd. After 1.3 km (0.8 miles), turn left onto Westwood Rd. Destination will be on the right, and after 1.1 km (0.6 miles), you will reach 395 Westwood Rd, where you can park your car and start your hiking trip.
From Victoria:
For some interested in hiking on Westwood Lake Trail and planning to get there from Victoria, choose Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 N. It is 115 km (71.4 miles) and takes about an hour and 45 minutes.
Take Government St to Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 N and after 1.2 km (0.7 miles) follow Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 N to Jingle Pot Rd in Nanaimo. Drive 112 km (69.5 miles) to Westwood Rd. After 1.6 km (1 mile), you will reach 395 Westwood Rd.
