Located 90 km (55.9 miles) west of Campbell River city, Gold River village is a traditional territory dating back to 1871. The name refers to the 1860s period when the Chinese were taking gold out of the area. The Gold River flows into Muchalat Inlet, 14 km (8.6 miles) from Gold River, making an opportunity to be explored by kayaking and canoeing followers.
The Gold River is known as a Glacier River, with crystal-clear waters. There are plenty of caverns and limestone caves in the river's vicinity, which multiplies the attractiveness of kayaking and canoeing.
Gold River is near the Yuquot (Friendly Cove), Hot Springs Cove, and Rugged Point Marine Provincial Park. Located on Highway 28, Indian Falls provides good views of the river.
Kayakers who intend to explore the Gold River and the surrounding environment have the chance to play golf, enjoy fishing, go hiking or mountain climbing, and set campsites. Paddlers can head to different lakes, including Muchalat Lake, Star Lake, and Antler Lake or go even farther to Tahsis Inlet, Tlupana Inlet, and Esperanza Inlet.
Kayakers must take care of the strong onshore winds of the afternoons. Black bears may appear on the sloping sandy beaches around the river.
