League Nanaimo 2025

Play, Create & Connect in Unexpected Ways
Step into... but wait—what if an art gallery became a playground? Imagine an exhibition where touching, running, throwing—even inventing your own games—is encouraged. Intrigued?
There’s an art installation coming to Nanaimo in 2025 that will challenge everything you thought about museums. It’s not just about looking—it’s about doing. League Nanaimo, an exhibition by artist Germaine Koh, transforms the Nanaimo Art Gallery into something between a hockey rink, a dance hall, a tennis court and an archery field. Here, art is alive—and you’re part of the action.

What to Expect

Koh reshapes museum norms by inviting visitors of all ages to jump, throw, dance, run and invent. This isn’t performance art—it’s participatory. You’ll find everyday objects, markings, and prompts prompting you to collaborate and iterate. Feel like creating a new game on the fly? Go for it.
League Nanaimo events extend into local parks and community centres, turning public spaces into impromptu playgrounds from August through early October.
  • Example: Community Event at May Richards Bennett Park, on August 2, 2025, 10 AM–1 PM, open to all ages and free to drop in
  • Happening Next.
  • Further pop-ups may occur; keep an eye on the Nanaimo Art Gallery website for updates.
