Having relaxed camping away from bustle would be great in Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park Campground, known as Saysutshun. Since no car is allowed on the island, campers enjoy the serene and quiet atmosphere of the oceanside campground with nothing but the sound of nature, flying birds over the ocean and campground, and wind. A ferry or boat is the only way to get to the campground. Hop on your boat or take a passenger ferry from Maffeo Sutton Park in Nanaimo and head to the beautiful Newcastle Island Provincial Park by a 10-minute ride to have serene camping. Just a 5-minute walk from the dock, 18 walk-in campsites are set in the forest and 5 group campsites accommodating up to 50 guests.
Campers can enjoy camping in Newcastle Island Campground, whether in tents or RVs. At the park's entrance area, a day-use area is located with a large grassy setting, a playground, and a swimming beach.
There is little worry for wildlife alarming because no bear or cougar exists in the Newcastle Island Provincial Park. The park is home to abundant raccoons. Even though raccoons are cute animals, campers should be cautious of being wild and avoiding feeding or approaching them. Food lockers are provided for visitors to keep their rations safe from local raccoons.
Touring around the island by just 8 km (4.9 miles) walk is a must that campers should experience. The park has various historical points, each accessible through several trails with a beautiful panoramic view. You can even rent a pavilion built in 1931 for weddings, dances, corporate picnics. A variety of amenities and shops are provided in Nanaimo, the nearby community, to meet their needs.
