China Beach is a beautiful sandy beach with lots of places to explore and fantastic views. Even if the weather is chilly, the sand is warm, and it's also soft when you feel it. Powerful winds and pounding waves make the place attractive for storm watching. Big swells in China Beach offer excellent surfing. The hiking is gorgeous and enjoyable through old-growth trees with a bit steep trail and a few stairs. Rocks, the ocean, and giant trees make a beautiful scenery on China Beach. Some small tide pools are on either end of China Beach, and also on the far north side, you can visit a beautiful waterfall. On the south side of China Beach, you would enjoy being beside a creek where it joins the ocean.
China Beach is located on the west coast of Vancouver Island, between Jordan River community and Jordan River Regional Park about 2 km (1.2 miles) to the south and Port Renfrew 20 km (12.4 miles). Near the north side of China Beach are Pete Wolf Creek and Mystic Beach and also Bear Beach, a secluded beach to have a quiet time, about one kilometre (0.6 miles) where you can enjoy camping. Its nearby trails are Juan de Fuca Trail and China Beach Trailhead. Although visiting Second Beach on its south side is possible by a 500 m (1640 ft) walk.
Getting to China Beach from Victoria is via British Columbia Highway 14/W Coast Rd.
The average temperature in the storm watching season, November to March, is about 7°C (44.5°F). It experiences the coldest months in December with a maximum temperature of 8°C (46°F) and a minimum temperature of 4°C (39°F). The high rate of precipitation is from October to March. Snowfall is from October to March.
