Creyke Point is a suitable place for whale watching in Sooke. Known as a 1.6 km (1 mile) loop trail with some up and downs with an elevation gain of 20 m (65.6 ft), Creyke Point features wildflowers and fantastic sceneries. The primary purpose of the trail is for hiking. However, it is also superb for whale watching, bird watching, and nature trips with splendid beaches and forests.
Orcas and Humpbacks:
Killer Whales (Orcas) and Humpbacks diving around Sooke give visitors ample opportunity to encounter these marvellous marine animals. Orcas are social animals that travel in groups known as pods. The pods usually are led by females with social hierarchies.
Other types of whales and mammals:
Gray, Fin and Minke Whales may also be visible during excursions. Other creatures include Harbor Seals, Elephant Seals, Dall's Porpoise, Harbour Porpoise, California Sea Lions, and bald eagles.
Creyke Point is located southeast of downtown Sooke, Vancouver Island, about 19.7 km (12.2 miles) away. It is in Galloping Goose Trail, East Sooke Regional Park. Some other hot spots for Sooke whale watching are Spirit Bay Visitor Centre, Beechey Head, Cabin Point, West Coast Outdoor Adventure, and Otter Point Park.

Getting to Creyke Point from Nanaimo is via Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 S. Take Wallace St to Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 S for 550 m (1804.4). Turn right onto Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 S and drive 94.1 km (58.4 miles). Continue on Westshore Pkwy to your destination in Juan de Fuca for 22.9 km (14.2 miles) to reach Creyke Point.
From Victoria:
Distance from Victoria: 39 km (24.2 miles) / Takes about 40 minutes.
Getting to Creyke Point from Victoria is via Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 N. Follow Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 N to Westshore Pkwy in Langford for 16.1 km (10 miles). Follow Westshore Pkwy to Juan De Fuca Hwy/Sooke Rd/BC-14 W for 4.2 km (2.6 miles). Continue on Juan De Fuca Hwy/Sooke Rd/BC-14 W to Juan de Fuca for 16.9 km (10.5 miles). Follow Becher Bay Rd to your destination, and after 1.8 km (1.1 miles), you will reach Creyke Point.
