Gonzales Bay is a small bay with one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on Vancouver Island. The beach is often quiet and peaceful. Walking on the Gonzales Bay beach near the ocean can help to release the world's anxiety. The cool waves of the ocean refresh your feet and wash away the tracks. Lie on the beach and see the peaks of Olympic Mountain and enjoy the Mediterrane climate. The blue sky gets orange in the afternoon, and the sun seems to meet the water making photogenic scenery. While you are on Gonzales Bay, there is a view of the highest point of the south coast of Vancouver Island, "Gonzales Hill." It offers a stunning ocean view and incredible nature. The area is so lovely in spring when the wildflowers bloom in the Garry oak meadows.
Gonzales Bay is located south of Vancouver Island near Victoria. Several magnificent landmarks are situated in the Gonzales Bay area to visit. Craigdarroch Castle is a unique historical place that was built in 1890. Take a tour there to be surprised by the gorgeous stained glass, amazing woodwork, old-time furnishings, and various clothes. Abkhazi Garden and tea house, located north of Gonzales Beach, is another place worth seeing. It is a beautiful little naturalized garden in the Fairfield area of Victoria built by a Georgian prince and his wife. Beacon Hill Park offers a breathtaking garden and beautiful peacocks less than 3 km (1.86 miles) away from Gonzales Bay. Walking, jogging, and riding bikes are available at the park.

Getting to Gonzales Bay from Nanaimo is via Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 S. The whole route is 116 km (72.07 miles) and takes about an hour and a half.
Take Wallace St to Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 S for 550 meters (1804.46 ft). Follow Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 S to Bay St in Victoria and drive 110 km (68.35 miles). Continue on Bay St. Take Richmond Rd to Foul Bay Rd, and after 5.2 km (3.23 miles), you will reach Gonzales Bay.
From Victoria:
The fastest route from Victoria to Gonzales Bay is Johnson St and Richmond Ave. It is 4.7 km (2.92 miles) and takes about 10 minutes.
First, head south on Broad St toward Johnson St for 94 meters (308.399 ft). Turn left onto Johnson St and after 1.8 km (1.11 miles), turn right onto Pandora Ave. Continue for 450 meters (1476.38 ft) and follow Oak Bay Ave for 500 meters(1640.42 ft). Turn right onto Richmond Ave and drive 1.3 km (0.8 miles). Turn left onto Fairfield Rd and after 220 meters (721.785 ft), turn right onto Foul Bay Rd. Go on for 350 meters (1148.29 ft) to see Gonzales Bay on your right side.
There isn't any registered hiking trail to reach Gonzales Bay.
Gonzales Bay was known as Foul Bay in the past. The bay was named Gonzales because of the Spanish explorer Gonzalo Lopez de Haro. In 1970, he did help to chart waters around Vancouver Island. The Haro Strait and Haro Rd on Ten Mile Point also were named after him. Joseph Despard Pemberton, the first colonial land surveyor, built a house in this region and named Gonzales. The home stood at St. Charles and Rockland for almost 100 years before being demolished in 1952.
As Gonzales Bay is placed near Victoria, there are lots of things to do. Several cycling paths in Victoria make it possible to explore the city. Gonzales Bay is famous for its great kayaking and swimming. It offers a beautiful sandy beach for you to go to sunbathe and relax, and children to use the playground and do their favourite hobbies. Be ready to start an adventure in the sky! Clover Point Anglers Association is only 2.4 km (1.49 miles) away, the best spot for paragliding on the south coast of Vancouver Island.
