Tribune Bay Provincial Park

Tribune Bay Provincial Park, nicknamed “Little Hawaii,” is known for its unusual rocky shoreline formations, tidal pools and beautiful white sandy beaches. The park is also famous for the warm and shallow water, which is ideal for frolicking and swimming.
Tribune Bay Provincial Park has a relaxing area that provides an opportunity to enjoy the fantastic sunsets and beautiful full moon without any street lights to distract the view.
Stunning wildflowers cover hillsides along the beach in the spring. Edible red huckleberries and dark blue salal berries contrast to the white sand beaches and create a spectacular scenic in the summer.


Tribune Bay Provincial Park Location

Tribune Bay Provincial Park has about 95 hectares (234.75 Acres) surface area. It is located on Hornby Island in British Columbia, Canada. The park comprises eccentric rock formations and more than a kilometre of white sandy beaches. Tribune Bay is one of the warmest saltwater swimming spots in BC and home to an exciting driftwood collection.
The nearby park is Helliwell Provincial Park, which is 5 km (3.1 miles) to the east. There are beaches near Tribune Bay Provincial Park. The closest one is Tribune Bay Beach, at the southeast of the park. Mushroom Beach and Whaling Station Bay Beach are two other beaches.


How to Get to Tribune Bay Provincial Park by Car

Tribune Bay Provincial Park is placed on Hornby Island. You need two short ferry rides (each takes about 25 minutes) from Buckley Bay to access the park.

From Nanaimo:
The Fastest route from Nanaimo is via BC-19 N. It is 112 km (70 miles) and takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Take Third St to BC-19 N for 3.3 km (2 miles). Follow BC-19 N to Fanny Bay for 81.9 km (51 miles) and take exit 101 toward Buckley Bay/Union Bay/Royston. After 450 m (1476 ft), merge onto Buckley Bay Rd. After 1.1 km (0.6 miles), take the Buckley Bay, BC - Denman Island, BC ferry to Denman Island. Once on Denman Island, follow Denman Rd and East Rd to Denman Island, BC - Hornby Island, BC, for 11.4 km (7 miles). Take the Denman Island, BC - Hornby Island, BC ferry to Hornby Island for 2 km (1.2 miles). Continue straight onto Shingle Spit Rd for 2.9 km (2miles) and take Central Rd to Tribune Bay Provincial Park.

From Victoria:
The Fastest route from Victoria is via Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 N and BC-19 N. It is 222 km (138 miles) and takes about 3 hours and a half.
Take Government St to Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 N for 1.2 km (0.7 miles). Follow Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 N and BC-19 N to Fanny Bay for 194.4 km (120 miles). Take exit 101 toward Buckley Bay/Union Bay/Royston. After 450 m (1476 ft), merge onto Buckley Bay Rd. Take the Buckley Bay, BC - Denman Island, BC ferry to Denman Island. Once on Denman Island, follow Denman Rd and East Rd to Denman Island, BC - Hornby Island, BC, for 11.4 km (7 miles). Take the Denman Island, BC - Hornby Island, BC ferry to Hornby Island, and continue on Shingle Spit Rd. Continue straight onto Shingle Spit Rd for 2.9 km (2 miles) and take Central Rd to Tribune Bay Provincial Park in Hornby Island.

History of Tribune Bay Provincial Park

Tribune Bay Provincial Park was established on November 2, 1978. The bay (and hence the park) was named after HMS Tribune, a ship stationed in British Columbia in 1859–1860 and 1864.
