What Travelers Are Saying: Real Reviews and Insigh

Visitors to Skutz Falls on Vancouver Island rave about the 4.3-mile loop trail near Paldi, British Columbia, calling it a “magical trail” with “gorgeous turquoise” river views and “amazing upgrades” like new bridges and stairs. Many describe Skutz Falls as a “great spot to stop and explore the beautiful Cowichan River Provincial Park,” praising its accessibility and serene beauty. The Skutz Falls trail, often dubbed the Skutz Falls to 66 Mile Trestle trail, earns high marks for its moderate difficulty, well-marked paths, and stunning vistas of the Cowichan River, lined with moss-covered trees and old-growth forests. Reviewers frequently note it’s “perfect for exercise” and “not crowded,” with free parking at the Skutz Falls parking lot adding to its appeal.

However, opinions on the waterfall itself are mixed. Skutz Falls is a waterfall on the Cowichan River on Vancouver Island, but many clarify it’s modest—“little falls here and there but no big waterfall focal point.” Some say it’s “not that great,” emphasizing that the Skutz Falls Vancouver Island walk is more about the journey than the destination. Safety concerns also surface, with warnings about “steep cliffs,” “undercutting on the ledges,” and slippery roots, urging hikers to “stay back from the edge” and wear “grippy shoes.” Despite these notes, the trail’s charm enhanced by wildflowers, salmon runs, and peaceful ambiance—keeps visitors returning.

Recent reviews from 2025 highlight ongoing trail improvements, with new bridges and stairs earning praise, though muddy patches and overgrowth persist in spots. Dog-friendliness is a recurring positive, with many noting “lots of places to stop and let the dog in the river.” Overall, Skutz Falls on Vancouver Island blends natural splendor with manageable adventure, though expectations should align with its subtle waterfall charm.
