Wickaninnish Beach is a clean and quiet sandy beach on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Pounding waves make Wickaninnish Beach a hot spot for storm watching.
The wide rustic beach is a part of Long beach with big swells for surfers. It's a big beach for wandering on with a nice and long curving view. Old scattered logs covering this peaceful beach, a natural phenomenon for kids to climb, makes Wickaninnish Beach beautiful. Lovely sea life as sea anemones, Sea urchin and starfish add the beauty of the Wickaninnish Beach. A couple of trails are available on Wickaninnish Beach. You can take a short walk, about one km (0.6 miles), to the rainforest trail and enjoy a wonderful hike, or to its nearby beach, Combers Beach, and about 2.5 km (1.5 miles) walk to Kwisitis Visitor Centre.
Wickaninnish Beach is located within Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Wickaninnish Beach is a part of Long Beach. To the north are Combers Beach, which takes a short walk to get there and Green Point Campground-Long Beach Unit, about 2 km (1.2 miles) and Long Beach, about 5 km (3 miles). Enjoying an excellent hiking nearby is possible to its east about 11 min walk at Rainforest trail. To the southeast visiting Kennedy Lake and having recreational time would be worth it in Kennedy Lake Provincial Park.
Getting there from Nanaimo is via Alberni Hwy, then Pacific Rim Hwy.
The average temperature in the storm watching season is about 6°C (43°F). It experiences the coldest months in December and January with a maximum temperature of 8°C (46°F) and a minimum temperature of 2°C (35°F). The high rate of precipitation is from November to October. Snowfall is from November to April.
