Several hiking trails are to and out of Helen Mackenzie Lake Campground, with beautiful views throughout the trail with small ponds and sub-alpine glades. Most trails to the Helen Mackenzie Lake Campground are family-friendly and pleasant, not far away from the parking lot. On Nordic drive at Raven Lodge parking lot, the trailhead starts. Lake Helen Mackenzie and Battleship Lake Loop Hike. The wooden walkway trail across marshy grounds winds around delightful meadows filled with glacial lakes, streams, alpine trees. Ten tent pads are provided in the Helen Mackenzie Lake Campground.
Helen Mackenzie Lake Campground is located in the Forbidden Plateau area. It is a part of Strathcona Provincial Park. The access to the backcountry Helen Mackenzie Lake is via a trail started on Nordic Drive at Raven Lodge parking. On the right, take Helen Mackenzie/Battleship trail. The trail's first section is quite well maintained through raised wooden walkways. By a short walk, you'll get to the northwest of Lake Helen Mackenzie. Walk not far from the right side and enjoy having an excellent time camping in Helen Lake Mackenzie Campground. Be cautious and follow marked trails. Avoid cross-country tracks, which may wind up in conflict with skiers.
The rugged Mount Elma to the south, and Mount Brooks to the lake's west side, are impressive. Free overnight parking passes can be obtained at the Raven Lodge store. Enthusiast would enjoy skiing in the area and at Mt Washington Alpine Resort with beautiful views, a great place, and a pleasant meal. Get equipped at the Raven Lodge store if you have decided to ski before going to the campground.
Don't forget to visit Strathcona Park Wilderness Centre at the trailhead for information about the Forbidden Platea's ecology, selling maps and running interpretive walks.

It experiences the coldest month in December with a maximum temperature of 4°C (39°F) and a minimum temperature of 0°C (32°F). The warmest months are July and August, with a maximum temperature of 25°C (77°F) and a minimum temperature of 13°C (55.5°F). Rain falls throughout the year. The high rate of precipitation is from October to April. Snowfall is from October to April.
